Billy Aton loves his new Triple X sprint car, and for good reason. He already got himself a main event victory. Saturday night, he took the Wingless Spec Sprint feature at Antioch Speedway near California's Bay Area.
Aton had his work cut out for him in the main event. In his heat race, Aton started sixth and made it all the way up to the front before a tire failed and knocked him out of that event. Forced to start at the back of the A-Main, Aton said he was "on a mission." In a spectacular driving effort, Aton passed the entire field and won the event.
"It was wicked fast right out of the box!" Aton said about his XXX sprint car. "It was incredibly smooth getting into the corners." Aton currently sits second in the Antioch Speedway point standings, but is only four tallies behind the leader.
Several hours earlier in Australia, Ryan Jones got his third win in just four races in his new Triple X sprint car. Already having won the Australian 360 Sprint Car championship at his hometown Murray Bridge Speedway and then the Mayors Cup at Speedway City in Adelaide, Jones returned to Speedway City on Saturday for another 360 sprint car event.
Jones competed in two heat races, finishing runner-up in the first one and then winning the second heat race from the sixth starting spot. That got him the pole for the main event of the Truckworks Sprint Car Stampede, which Jones ended up winning.
In just four starts in his new car, Jones finished runner-up his first night out and has now won three main events in a row. In a XXX car, Jones currently has the honor of racing with the No. 1 on his car at any 360 sprint car event in Australia following his Australian 360 championship.
