CORONA, California — The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series just completed race number seven on the series schedule in 2009. The "Sunoco Road to Wheatland" program just completed their last event at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN for the "Indiana Icebreaker" in front of a standing room only crowd and 65 drivers signed in attempting to make the feature event. The $10,000 to win 50-lap feature event turned out to be one of most exciting events to date in 2009. Numerous lead changes and three and four wide racing throughout the feature had the packed out crowd cheering every lap as the battle for the top five positions was intense from start to finish. Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville Florida the 2008 reigning series champion picked up his first series win of 2009 and became the 5th different winner on the series in 2009.
After seven events on the "Sunoco Road to Wheatland" a series record of 32 different drivers have participated in every Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event thus far in 2009 and remain eligible for the bonus money offered at each event leading to the SuperClean Diamond Nationals on May 8-9th. The series is averaging 69 cars per event after seven events so far in 2009 as the series takes a week off. The "Sunoco Road to Wheatland" program now heads to the state of Georgia for a pair of series sanctioned events at Screven Motor Speedway and Swainsboro Speedway on April 3rd and 4th. The LOLMDS will visit the Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA on Friday Night, April 3rd for a $7,000 to win feature event and on Saturday Night, April 4th another return engagement will take place at Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, GA for a $10,000 to win feature event.
The "Sunoco Road To Wheatland" program rewards drivers that follow the series with perfect attendance to each Lucas Oil Championship Points event beginning at East Bay Raceway in Tampa, FL through the May 8th & 9th, 75 Lap "3rd Annual SuperClean Diamond Nationals event at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO.The Sunoco Road to Wheatland bonus monies was paid to Steve Casebolt, Justin Rattliff, Freddy Smith, Jimmy Owens, Wayne Chinn, John Mason, Scott Bloomquist, Donnie Moran, Ray Cook and Don O'Neal. These drivers raced their way into the Sunoco Road to Wheatland program at Brownstown, Jimmy Owens, Scott Bloomquist, Ray Cook, Don O'Neal and Josh McGuire and 4 more drivers are in the running for the Sunoco Road to Wheatland bonus money based off 2008 points totals as long as long as they have perfect attendance in 2009.
In addition to the $30,000 first place prize money for the winner of the Diamond Nationals, Sunoco Race Fuels will award an additional $2,000 cash award to the winner of the Diamond Nationals if that driver has perfect attendance on the series leading up to the Diamond Nationals and used Sunoco Race Fuels to win the event.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship point's standings had several changes in positions after the Brownstown event and looks like the chase for the series championship will have some new faces this year as several veterans and some new young talented drivers have moved into the top ten in the series point's standings. With his win at Brownstown, Earl Pearson Jr. vaulted to the top of the points standings and now leads Billy Moyer by a mere 10 points with Dale McDowell in third just 35 points behind Moyer. In fourth place in the series championship points standings sits Jimmy Owens just 15 points out of third place and Scott Bloomquist and Josh McGuire are tied for 5th place in the series points standings just 10 points behind Jimmy Owens in 4th place. In 7th through 10th place in the series point's standings are Brad Neat, 8th-Don O'Neal, 9th- Ray Cook and 10th- Bart Hartman.
In the "Sunoco Race For Gas" points standings Billy Moyer remains on top followed by Earl Pearson Jr., Dale McDowell, Matt Miller, Steve Casebolt, Brad Neat, Josh McGuire and Bart Hartman. Sunoco Race Fuels will pay the driver that earns the most Sunoco Race For Gas points and has perfect attendance during the year, a $3,000 cash award at the series year end banquet and the runner up will receive a $1,000 cash award from Sunoco Race Fuels.
