MIRA LOMA, California — Scott Dodd wins in his #25 Whelen NASCAR Super Late Model at the nations premier ½ mile track, Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Dodd qualified 5th out of the 23 competitors, the top five qualifiers were all within .04 of a second of each other. At that point he knew there was going to be some tight racing. With the invert Dodd started on the Pole for the 25 lap main event. At the start the #57 car had a problem and the yellow came out before a lap was completed, so there was a complete restart. This brought the #12 of Rip Michels the multi-time track champion along side Dodd on the front row. Michels led the first lap by .005 of a second. On the second lap Dodd was able to pass Michels for the lead and held on to the lead until the checker flags. Dodd was able to fight off 2008 champion Nick Joanides who finished second.
"In the second race Dodd started again on the Pole, but this time his car was a handful and he wasn’t able to fight off Joanides or Michels."
This was Dodd’s second win in the series with his first win coming in only his third start in the series in 2007. For the second half of 2007 and in 2008 Dodd had several problems with engines and wasn’t able to compete in all of the races. “This was awesome for our team. We have really worked hard and I want to thank my team for all their hard work” stated Dodd.
In the second race Dodd started again on the Pole, but this time his car was a handful and he wasn’t able to fight off Joanides or Michels. He ran third until lap 18, when after a bump from a competitor had him brush the wall and he fell to 8th and finished the race in the 8th position.
