The first race of the season had an invert of eight so Austin and Andrew started 7th and 8th. The first twenty laps were unbelievable with a four row two wide pack that you could not separate. After thirty five the field started to spread out and Austin was able to make his way up to 5th place just behind Andrew Phipps when the seventy five lap main event ended. "He couldn't have done any better and I am so proud." Stated his dad Tedd Barnes after the race.
