COLORADO RIVER LATE MODEL SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP TO HIGHLIGHT THE HAVASU 95 SPEEDWAY SATURDAY NIGHT

The Havasu 95 Speedway, the most scenic quarter mile paved oval in the southwest located in Lake Havasu City-Arizona, will be presenting a special Easter weekend show this Saturday night, April 11th. The ASA sanctioned action will be highlighted by the final resolution of the Colorado River Late Model Series championship. Race fans will also be treated to a historical blast from the past by West Coast Vintage Racing with their collection of midget and sprint cars. The Havasu 95 Speedway race card will also feature fan favorite action from the ASA Street Stocks and Factory Stocks. The Easter Bunny is even going to make a special appearance to entertain children of all ages. This special Saturday night of racing is an Easter gift presented by Mc Atlin Electrical Corporation the official race sponsor.

The Colorado River Late Model Series is a 12 event championship run jointly conducted by the Havasu 95 Speedway and the Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway in Blythe-California. The top of the championship series has been dominated by drivers Austin Murphy and Mark Schriner all season long. Murphy goes into the final race Saturday night with two feature wins,11 top five finishes and 620 championship points. Schriner has four wins, ten top fives, one top ten finish and goes into the final round only 16 markers away from the points lead.

There were three key events in the series that impacted a skin tight, too close to call, points race between the two drivers. In the February 21st race Murphy collected 48 points to Schriner's 36 and then padded his lead an additional six points following the March 15th event. However Schriner roared back by winning the March 21st Blythe race, worth 50 points, on a night when Murphy earned 42 points. Those stats led to the current showdown that Late Model racing fans are going to see Saturday night.

But this is not to imply that the series is only a two car race: far from it. Murphy and Schriner are going to have plenty of competition and one of those sources may be coming from legendary late model driver Ron Daniel. Although Daniel has only ran a part time schedule in the series this year his presence has always been formidable and he has two feature wins.

Yet another source of major competition for a Havasu 95 speedway checkered flag will come from the anticipated presence of Miles Copenhaver. This talented young driver used some appearances in the Colorado River Late Model Series to prepare for a 2009 title run at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. His pre season winter racing effort has turned up two feature wins. There's also speculation that says racing legend Ron Esau will be in Lake Havasu City driving a second team car.

Adding yet another level to the already well stoked competitive fire is a report that says some of the Las Vegas based late model teams will be Arizona bound for Saturday night' race. Make no mistake about it, would be champions Austin Murphy and Mark Schriner are going to have their hands full when the green flag falls on the Colorado River Late Model Series main event.

The ASA Street Stocks will be presenting round 11 of their winter series at the Havasu 95 Speedway Saturday night. The question remains which young buck can find the right set up to out drive 68 year old Ralph Adams? With seven feature wins and eight top five finishes, Adams virtually has the track title locked up. However there are many drivers in the series who would love to claim the bragging rights of beating Adams before the winter season ends next month. Drivers such as Nathan Hovdal, who is second in the standings. along with Rick Layman and Ricky Maddox will be looking for checkers Saturday night.

The fan favorite Factory Stocks can always be counted on for some fender banging action. Jose Guevara lead the series' standings and holds a 36 point advantage over Scott Allen. But always remember that this is the Factory Stocks and literally anything can happen within a matter of seconds that could tighten up those standings.

Making this night at the Havasu 95 Speedway even more special will be an appearance by the West Coast Vintage Racers. This group is dedicated to the preservation and racing of antique open wheel cars. The group will be participating in the pre race autograph session which will give fans the opportunity to see the cars up close, meet the drivers and be treated to some terrific racing stories.

The always innovative Havasu 95 Speedway Special Events Department has once again lined up some off track entertainment for the fans. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to greet fans of all ages and will host an Easter egg hunt for kids 12 and under.

The Havasu 95 Speedway weekend begins on Friday night with a test and tune session for the race teams from 6 to 9 pm. This practice session is free to spectators and concession stands will be available.

On Saturday race day the spectator gates will open at 4 pm with the racing starting at 6 pm. Ticket prices are $12 general admission and $10 for seniors, military personnel and the handicapped. Kids tickets are $6 for ages 6 to 16 while kids under five are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The speedway also offers a family package for $25 which admits two adults and two kids. $25 will also admit you to the VIP section, the best seats in the house, which includes free pizza and two drinks.

For out of town race teams and fans the Days Inn is the official motel of the Havasu 95 Speedway. They offer beautiful and spacious rooms at very affordable rates. Call 928 855 7841 for reservations.
