KEVIN HARVICK QUOTES:
"I have a lot of great memories at Phoenix."— Kevin Harvick
Is the new style of cars dramatically different from the older cars at a place like Phoenix?
“The short tracks are probably less different than they are on the bigger tracks, the way that you drive them. It’s a little bit different, but for the most part, they’re closer to the same than they are on the mile-and-a-half tracks. The biggest difference (between the different cars driven at Phoenix) is the horsepower (difference) from the Nationwide to the Cup side. A couple hundred horsepower makes a big difference on where you let off (the throttle).”
The first Phoenix Sprint Cup Series race is held at night, while the second is held during the day. Does that make a big difference in how the car handles, etc.?
“I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Usually, it’s pretty warm there anyway and even at night, it’s pretty comfortable. The daytime kind of aggravates what you have in the cooler conditions. At night, it covers up a few things. Still, you’re going to get loose off the corners. You’re going to be tight in the center. It’s the same things you always fight at Phoenix.”
What is your favorite memory from Phoenix?
“I have a lot of great memories at Phoenix. We have been fortunate to win in all three divisions there. I raced in one of my first trucks that KHI built there. I just have a lot of memories on and off the race track at Phoenix. I don’t think I can narrow it down to just one.”
