
IRWINDALE, California — A five race schedule and two tickets for the price of one highlight this Saturday night’s (April 18) activities at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale. Fans will be able to purchase two $15.00 adult general admission tickets for the price of one and the same for the special $7.50 student tickets for teenagers 13-18 with identification. Youngsters 12 years of age and under are admitted for free. Tickets are available for purchase at the Speedway ticket office the day of the event.
Five NASCAR Whelen All-American series feature races are scheduled including a 50-lap Super Late Model race, 40-lap King Taco Super Trucks race, 35-lap Legends Cars race, 20-lap Bandoleros race and a 25-lap Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8 race.
Familiar names occupy the top four spots in the Super Late Model standings led by reigning division champion Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills with 148 points including two wins in his first three races. Rip Michels of San Fernando is in second place (130 points) 18 points back, followed by Dan Moore of Burbank who is in third place with 120 points while Travis Thirkettle of Newhall occupies the fourth spot with 118 points. .
Reigning champion Pat Mintey Jr leads the King Taco Super Trucks division standings and a group of drivers who put on a spectacular show in the last race on April 4. In that race 0.342 seconds separated the top three drivers in the finishing order with Mason Britton of Sacramento finishing first edging Ron Johnson Jr at the finish line by 0.222 seconds following by Mintey who finished in third place.
The Legends Cars return to action for their second race of the season. In the season opener on April 4, Chad Schug of Oak Hills started in 11th position, moved his way up through the field taking the lead on the final lap from Upland’s Donny St. Ours beating him at the finish line by 0.096 seconds.
The Bandoleros are back in action for their second race of the season with Lil Al Simpson of Los Angeles prevailing in the season opener on April 4th.
The always entertaining Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8s will serve as the event finale. Rod Proctor of Riverside scored an impressive flag-to-flag win in the season opening double points race on March 21st. Defending champion Steve Stewart of Long Beach finished in second place while Barefoot Billy Ziemann of Bloomington who goes barefoot except in his race car, finished in third place.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. with drivers, crews and race cars on the oval track. The first race begins at 7 p.m.
The Speedway features musical entertainment every other Saturday night before the races. This Saturday the band Girls Night Out will perform beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Toyota vehicle display area near the main spectator entrance.
