MUSCATINE, Iowa — After coming close to reaching victory lane in each of their first three starts in 2009, the Birkhofer Racing team finally tasted the sweetness of victory on Friday night, April 17 at the Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois! Brian Birkhofer timed in second fastest in qualifying for the 'Frostbuster 50' and later won his heat race. Following a second place run in the dash to winner Don O'Neal, Brian rolled off from the outside of the front row for the 50-lap main event.
The Muscatine, Iowa driver hunted down leader Will Vaught early in the A-Main and took the point from Vaught on the eighth circuit. The "Muscatine Madman" then kept the stout field at bay throughout the rest of the 'Frostbuster 50' to record the $10,000 triumph over Scott James, Will Vaught, Don O'Neal, and Chris Simpson. "It feels great to finally get that first win under our belt," commented Birkhofer this week. "The car has been so good and so consistent, that we knew a win was eventually going to come our way. It has been awful hectic around here the last few weeks moving into my new shop, so I am so appreciative of everyone for their help and generosity. Hopefully, we can go out east this weekend and run up front against some very stiff competition at Bedford and Hagerstown!"
Next up for the #15b team will be a trip to the Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pennsylvania on Friday, April 24 and the Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland on Saturday, April 25. Both events will pay $10,000 to the winner and will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
