(March 8, 2001) The desert is becoming a regular stop for Austin Cameron and his AC Motorsports crew. On Saturday March 10th the NASCAR Winston West Series will open the 2001 race season at Tucson Raceway Park, when the stars of the West Coast take to the 3/8 mile paved oval for the West Series 3rd race of the season, and third straight race in the desert.
“We were successful at the first two”, said Austin. “Three is a charm, Right!” And what a charm a win would make for the team. Austin Cameron is currently 2nd in points in the NWWS only 15 points behind the current series leader. “We have a really great team this year thanks to our sponsors, said Austin.” Creative Touch Interiors, Hawthorne Machinery, Cement Cutting Inc., McMillin Realty S.D., Pure Adrenaline, Pell Mell, Carter Collision, Crower, Penske, Willwood and Rons Rear Ends have all been a big part of our program and we want to win the Championship for them this season. The AC Motorsports Team will take their #12 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, which they raced in Vegas, to Tucson, for the always exciting and nail biting short track event. “We came home with quite a bit of damage from the last race”, said Austin. “I am sure this one will be no different. Those short track races are always side by side races to the end.”
This weekends NASCAR Winston West race will be the kick off race for the Tucson Raceway Park 2001 racing season. It will be a 250 lap race on the .375 mile paved oval which ranges in banking from six, nine and twelve degrees through the corners to a 6 degree banked front and back straight. This will be the first NWWS race at Tucson, which will be 250 laps. The previous races have been 150 and 200 lap events. Saturdays race will take place at 2:00pm with the first of 2 practices beginning at 9:00am and the second at 10:15am. Qualifying is slated to begin at 12:30pm. The race will be televised on a tape delay basis on FOX Sports Net. Austin will be in Tucson on Friday to assist NASCAR in the promotion of this event by visiting local media and fans.
