POST FALLS, Idaho — Shelby Thompson dominated the Inland Northwest Super Stock Series season opener at Stateline Speedway Saturday night. The fast time driver combated cold and ever changing track conditions to take the win in the 100-lap race.
Thompson took the lead from Montana's Bodie Morton, winner of a dash race, on lap 13 for the victory. Thompson nearly lapped the entire field halfway in the race before a caution saved second place driver Jeff Fenton from going down a lap.
Fenton battled to a solid second followed by Kameron McKeehan of Lewiston, Idaho, dash winner Jeff Little, and Kit VanBuskirk rounding out the top five. Twelve cars started the event slowed five times for cautions.
Dan Robinson piloted his vintage Sprint Car to fast time and won the 10-lap main event for the Golden Wheels, West Coast Vintage Racer's event. Butch Duren won a dash race in a restored Roadster. Chuck Harring took his Midget to a win in the dash.
Don Kudrna and Frank Volz Sr took the top three. The team of Lenora McMurtry and Marvin Price finished seventh.
Aaron Nevers dueled fast time and dash winner Kip Elliott for the 25-lap Street Stock main event. Nevers also won the battle in the heat race when Elliott avoided a slower car ending up in the outfield with damage.
Defending Street Stock champion Ned Pennington finished third followed by Keith Williams and Will Whitlow.
Next Saturday the late models of the ICAR Racing Series take to the track along with Outlaw Compacts and Hobby cars. Events start a new start time of 6pm. General admission is $10 for adults; kids under six are free.
The wild, wacky, unpredictable action of Wednesday Night Fever continues every Wednesday at 6pm with the cars and superstars of the Road Runners, Fever 4's, plus the wild and crazy Bump to Pass division. Adults are just $5.75; kids under the age of nine accompanied by adults are free.
