DEERFIELD, Wisconsin — Mid West Modified Champion sets his sights on the Legionary Bonneville Salts flats.

After his Championship, 48 feature wins, and over 200 other oval track wins Roy Aitchison has quit turning left, he hopes. Aitchison who has driven IMCA and IMCA “Type” Modifieds thought he was retired until last May when a friend Bob Hoisington suggested they go to Bonneville. It turns out; a few years back a Modified and had gone 173 MPH, the fastest oval track Modified recorded at Bonneville.

As Aitchison and Hoisington rode too the Indy 500 last summer, Hoisington made it clear “If we can’t go 200 MPH it’s not worth the effort”. Their goal is set: August 8-14 2009 Bonneville Salt Flats and 200 MPH.

Aitchison had his newest Modified sitting in a warehouse, a fresh B&B motor, new TAR Race Car Body, raced twice when he put it away. “We are working hard to make the required changes for Bonneville Salt Flats. There are many safety and aero requirements to safely go 5-miles wide open throttle on the loosely packed dry salt lake. Larger fire system, parachute, more roll bars, new driver uniform; boots etc are a few of the items required to conform to the SCTA rules”.

Their team is relying heavily on local sponsors to achieve their goal. “We have been fortunate with companies helping us with their products and services. The Bonneville excitement has opened many new doors for our team. Logistically it’s a big project for us, we have 2 trucks, 2 trailers, 7 crew guys on the road for this 2 week project. We have a large KOA camp sight near the Salt Flats, showers, washers, a pool, tents and trailers but- food and drinks for this crew will be a financial investment” Aitchison laughs.

Aitchison invites everyone to take a look at their race car, meet their sponsors, and watch their progress at www.highspeedgreen.com
