Dave Byrd will roll into Las Vegas on May 2nd and 3rd with a tall order. If Dave and his Bob Strandwold race team plan on improving on the last couple of outings, Dave will only need to set fast time, set a new track record, win the main event and walk away continuing to be in the series point lead. The only obstacle seems be at least 20 of the best touring stock car teams and drivers in the southwest United States.
"The truth is the fast times come from having well prepared cars and some good coaching of the optimum line to take in qualifying"— Dave Byrd
The event is the Southwest Super Sunday otherwise known as the “Blackjack 121” at “Las Vegas Motor Speedway">The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway” a the 0.375 mile (600 m) paved oval.
Dave is the LVMS Bullring track record holder for qualifying in an SRL Southwest Tour car. Dave set the track record last October during the season ending series visit, posting a “fastest qualifier” time of 14.760 seconds.
Dave is currently coming off the 2009 season opener at All American Speedway in Roseville California, pulling off fast time which was a new track record at 13.431 seconds and after the main event walked away with the series point lead.
“The truth is the fast times come from having well prepared cars and some good coaching of the optimum line to take in qualifying” Stated Byrd. “Between my new crew chief Mike Naake and my car chief Mike Mansch coaching me at Roseville and last year at the Bullring I had the local expert, Thane Alderman, walk me through the line to take” further explained Byrd. “I just had to listen and have faith it would stick!”
