Madera Speedway kicks off the month of May with a very special "Fan Appreciation Night" program, Presented by Port Authority Apparel, this Saturday evening, May 2nd. And to show his appreciation for a great start to the 2009 season, track President Kenny Shepherd will throw the entry gates wide open on Saturday and admit everyone for free. Yes, FREE!
This Saturday’s huge six division card will feature the NASCAR Whelen All American Western Late Models in twin 50-lap features, plus the Grand American Modifieds, American Limited Stock Cars, Modified Super Toyotas, Toyota Sedans and Hornets. In addition, it has just been announced that the fire breathing, ground stomping 410 Supermodifieds will be running a special 10-lap exhibition race as a preview for the upcoming Vukovich Classic/Super Saturday show on Saturday, May 11.
The Madera "Young Guns" continue to dominate the top of the Western Late Model division standings as second generation driver Kyle Gottula, age 22 of Modesto, posted his third win of the new season last Saturday to take a 163 to 114 point lead in the standings over former All American Speedway champion Eric Schmidt of Roseville.
Third generation driver Ross Strmiska, age 22 of Stockton, sits in third, 16-year-old Manteca rookie Jacob Gomes continues to impress in fourth and 20-year-old
NASCAR Diversity Driver Katie Hagar, who is quickly becoming a fan favorite, rounds out the top five.
The open-wheel Grand American Modifieds return for the second time this season in a 30-lap feature. Former two-time Madera champion Scott Winters, of Tracy, showed that he still knows his way around the "Fastest 1/3 Mile in the West" as he turned in a pair of impressive wins on April 11.
The always competitive American Limited Stock Cars (ALSC) division returns for their fourth race of the 2009 season. Points leader Jason Aguirre of Atwater, Modesto’s Dennis Saunders Jr. and Coulterville’s Matt Erickson have each earned their way to victory lane this year.
Two-time defending Super Toyota champion Stan Hankins, of Fresno, has had his hands full this season as he looks to three-peat. After capturing eight wins last season, Hankins sits in an unaccustomed third place without a victory and trails long time rival Jason Kerns of Fresno and points leader Chris Lewis, of Sanger, who has taken the checkers in the last two events.
Chowchilla’s John Bowersox holds the lead in the current points standings in the Modified Super Toyota division while Modesto’s Richard Hull holds a slim one point (56-55) advantage over Fresno’s Justin Petz in the wild and wacky Hornets.
That is six big divisions in seven main events plus an exhibition race by the 410 Supermodifieds at a price that everyone can afford….FREE! That’s right FREE admission to one and all. So bring your mom, bring your dad, bring your crazy Uncle Ernie, bring them all because anyone and everyone gets into the Madera Speedway this Saturday night, May 2, to "Fan Appreciation Night" for FREE! VISA and MasterCard usually welcome at window #3, but we won’t take them this Saturday because everyone gets in for FREE!
This Saturday Madera Speedway registration will begin at noon, the grandstands open at 3:00 PM, trophy dashes and heat races will commence at 5:00 PM and the evening’s opening ceremonies will kick off main event racing at approximately 6:00 PM.
