Ask any of the veteran race watchers at Canyon Speedway Park and they will tell you of the epic battles between Hatfield, Ward, Morris and more. Now race fans young and old can re-live that same excitement as Canyon's second generation of Modified drivers lead the pack back to the Peoria oval. Bo Hatfield, Tim Ward and John Morris Jr find themselves in the top three positions in the point standings heading into Saturday nights IMCA Modified race at Canyon Speedway Park.
Bo Hatfield is the point leader and son of the legend Kenny Hatfield, Tim Ward who is second in points with three main event IMCA wins in 2009 is the son of Arizona's IMCA Modified all time feature winner (99 main event wins) Rick Ward while John Morris Jr currently third in points is the son of John Morris who was a top runner at Canyon years ago. Taking a look at the remainder of the top five in points will find the veterans Guy Norton and George Fronsman nipping at the heels of the youngsters while looking for the consistent finishes that will keep their team in the top of the points race all season long.
Marlowe Wrightsman took last week's main event win in the Pure Stock division. Close to thirty Pure Stocks were on hand last week and saw Wrightsman take the main event win and point lead going into Saturday's event. Youngster Chris McCurdy Jr, Tucson's Jim Skaggs, Ty Warner and Rick Mills round out the top five in the Pure Stock point standings.
"Bomber Mania" returns to Canyon Saturday with close to thirty Bombers expected to mix it up once again. Last week's main event was a wild one that saw three and four wide racing in the early laps. When things settled down it was Matt Martinez coming out on top in the Bomber main event. Following Martinez across the stripe was early season champ Mike Bray, Joe Vlasity, Ryan Zolman and Michelle Halfhill.
