Branden Underwood wins his first top five finish in his #28 Dodge Dakota ASA Speed Truck at Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. With Underwood’s kart racing background and going into this new series this year in the ASA Speed Truck Series brought a big smile on Underwood’s face after the race Saturday night.
The ASA Speed Truck Challenge just finished the third race of the season at Havasu 95 Speedway last weekend. Branden Underwood qualified 11th in his #28 Dodge Dakota, and going into the main event as the green flag dropped all Underwood knew was to get through the first turn and get to the front. The race was very competitive, Underwood caught up to 8th place driver on lap 30. As he drove his truck in for the pass, he realized it was a little tight and spun himself around in a complete 360 as he got on the gas before the leaders caught up to him he was in last place, without a caution. Underwood’s spotter told him the leaders were around the next corner behind him, all he knew to do was drive hard to get back up front, after passing most all of the competitors Branden was in 5th place to finish the night at the Havasu 95 Speedway.
Underwood received the Hard Charger Award Saturday night for the most trucks passed. After the race, Branden stated “it was a great night, my truck was hooked up and the truck didn’t go away, I had to drive a smart race to get to the front and I told my crew chief Dana Stahl, great job on the set up!” He also was excited because this is his best finish so far in this new racing series for the 15 year old from Henderson Nevada.
