BAKERSFIELD, California — After coming off the opening season race in the Southwest Tour series at All American Speedway, all NTS Motorsports and driver Brennan Newberry wanted was to have a little luck.
Going into the second race, “The Blackjack 121” at The Bullring in Las Vegas at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In speaking with driver, Brennan Newberry he was asked what his main goal was? “1st priority is to finish.”” And going into this race I feel I can do that with a calm and relaxed mindset.”
Practice worked out as planned and the team couldn’t have asked for more. With crew chief, Gary Collins and team the car was good out of the gate. With a top five in practice session, there was a confidence in both team and driver. “Gary and I and the crew have gelled more and the chemistry is good, I feel there’s more respect that’s gained with everyone,” claims Brennan.
Starting the race thirteenth, all Brennan Newberry had to do was just focus on his job and race hard. One lap at a time, says Brennan. In doing that he climbed up to seventh, then started to lose power and needed to pit. The team worked diligently in trying to diagnose the problem at hand. Not seeing any obvious problem and all gages working properly, they sent Brennan back out.
Being laps down crew chief, Gary Collins just wanted to have his driver ride out the race, stay out of the way of lead lap cars and finish for points. After a restart from a caution, Brennan was spun in turn one and two due to the impatience of another driver. Which in turn caused a driver communication error on the front stretch.
After finishing the race in sixteenth and seventeen laps down, I asked Brennan what he learned from this race? His reply,” I’ve learned that on track difficulties work better with patience and staying calm. It does no good to throw your hands up and get mad you don’t learn anything when you do that.”
“Even though we didn’t finish in the top ten, I was very proud of Brennan and there were no driver mistakes, “comments crew chief, Gary Collins.
NTS Motorsports is sponsored by Excel Equipment and Alpine Stars. Next race for the SRL Southwest Tour series is scheduled at the Madera Speedway on May 23rd in Madera, CA.
