Given a chance to make the field, Rookie Tony Schmidt in car #49 lead 101 laps at Tucson Raceway Park, March 10, 2000 in Tucson, AZ. After an engine failure at Phoenix and not qualifying in Las Vegas, the team pulled together to make it happen in Tucson. Tony lead the field for 101 laps, and at lap 240 a crash brought out a caution until lap 250. When the flag turned green Tony fought to keep the lead for the two-lap dash to the finish. After being tapped in the rear, Tony regained control of the car to finish in second place by a one second margin.
Tony is looking forward to this weekend at Bakersfield. He raced there last October, qualifying 7th and finishing in 12th. Tony said, “ With my excellent run in Tucson, I am looking for similar or better results in Bakersfield.”
