UPLAND, California — Josh Goshen in the #04 Baker Commodities, Gatorz Eyewear, Quality First Concrete, Merv Griffin Enterprises Chevy Colorado American Speed Association (ASA) Speed Truck Challenge (STC) ties rookie points lead in the highly contested 2009 Rookie of the Year award in the ASA STC.

The ASA STC awards 3 points to the top qualifying and 3 points for the top finishing Rookie in each race, with 2 points for second qualifier and 2 points for second finisher followed by 1 point for each category. The season opening race at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway saw Cole Cabrera #53 take a total of 4 points over Jeremiah Wagner #77 with 3 points, #04 Josh Goshen and #29 Jack Madrid with 2 points each, and Cole secures the Rookie points lead after the first race. The “Bullring” at Las Vegas Motor Speedway saw Cole walk away with top Rookie honors in qualifying and finishing with Jeremiah getting 3 and Josh getting 2 points, respectively, Cole holds the lead. Onto the Verve! Havasu 95 Speedway with Jeremiah again taking top honors in both qualifying and finishing followed by Josh with 4 points and Jeremiah takes the lead. The road course race at Firebird International Raceway favored Josh with 3 points for qualifying and finishing over both Jeremiah and Cole and the top spot is now shared between Jeremiah and Josh at 14 points each but Cole follows the tie at 13 points. What a great battle by a group of great young drivers and here is the best part…Jeremiah turned 15 on April 30th, Josh was 15 last December 20th, Cole and Jack are both 14 years old! This is going to be a hard fought battle, race to race through the season with some very young guns at the wheel of their Speed Trucks.

The ASA STC has completed 4 races in its 2009 season and already has 4 different winners. #18 Darren Young at I-10 Speedway, #53 Cole Cabrera at Las Vegas, #16 Donny St. Ours at Havasu and #1 Jeff Catlin at Firebird. But after these 4 races Joey Licata #71 has the points lead at 225, with Randel King #35 holding the second position at 214, Donny St. Ours at 212, Jeff Catlin at 211, Cole Cabrera at 198, Josh Goshen with 192 and Jeremiah Wagner at 182 points. The series races “back to back” at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale on May 30th and on June 13th and you just might see race winners number 5 and 6 get their first of the season there. The 13th season for the ASA Speed Truck Challenge is shaping up to be one of the best ever.

The Speed Trucks are 2450 pounds, full tube chassis, 108 inch wheelbase, 375 horsepower Van Gordon Racing V-8’s, fired by Mr. Gasket’s - Mallory / ACCEL ignition systems and VP Race Fuel, with 2-speed direct drive transmissions and Speedway Engineering aluminum quick change rear ends on 8-inch Hoosier Racing Tires and Allied Racing Wheels and can reach speeds of 105 MPH at the ½ mile TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale oval and 150 MPH on the 1.9-mile road course at Firebird International Raceway.
