YAMIMA, Washington — It was the hottest day of the year so far and ASA Sanctioned Yakima Speedway racing action was even hotter. Main event winners at the end of the day were Owen Riddle in the Late Model 60-lap main, AJ Rose in the H&H Furniture Pure Stock 20-lap main event, Donnie Stevens was the 15-lap Bump to Pass winner and it was Christian Hall in the 15-lap Yakima Driving School Youth Hornet 15-lap event.
After Scott Walker set fast time and a new track record for the Late Models, the trophy dashes were won by Erick Hargraves and Jesse Brown.
Brown set the pace for the first 27 laps before Dan Obrist muscled past for the lead low in turn 3. The freight train started rolling Brown back to 4th with Owen Riddle and Scott Walker in tow behind Obrist. Riddle and Obrist battled hard Walker keeping the two leaders in his sights. Riddle passed Obrist to take the lead on lap 38 and held the point for the final 22 circuits. The race was slowed by 4 cautions and one red flag. The red flag fell on lap 46 for Christopher Kalsch who spun off the back stretch and wound up high centered on the back stretch fence entering turn 3. Riddle picked up the win with Walker second, Ron Bemis battling back from a first lap spin to finish 3rd with Hargraves and Marcus Maggard rounding out the top 5. Brown won the best appearing car contest voted on by fan applause.
Track records continue to fall, as Jeff Liebert went 24.681 in the H&H Furniture Pure Stocks to pace the field. Joe Estep won his dash and heat race. Jay Younker won a dash and AJ Rose won the other heat. In the main Younker started strong leading the first 13 laps while getting plenty of heat from Rose and Liebert. Liebert grabbed the lead on lap 14 with Rose following. On the last two laps, Rose took over the lead and held off a hard charging Liebert for the win.
Christian Hall had a great night in the Yakima Driving School Youth Hornets. Hall won the dash, heat and main event. Jacob Little broke up the clean sweep with a track record of 17.714 in time trials. Kyler Conduff won the best appearing car contest.
