Jason Patison and his NASCAR Camping World East team traveled to Iowa Speedway for the Long John Silver’s 200, stop number three on the 12 race schedule. Patison lined up on the outside of row ten for the start of the 200 lap event. By lap 35 he had navigated up to 15th position and was working his way past a large group of competitors when the left rear tire went down, causing the car to fish tail badly and lose speed. It was the worst possible time for this as Patison’s machine was in the middle of a large group of cars and was struck in the left rear quarter panel and nose, severely damaging the body and resulting in a loss of down force.
Patison pitted several times, allowing his team to work on repairing the number 17 machine but unfortunately they could only do so much. Patison was able to finish the event but with the damage to the body he was never able to run up front with the leaders. He finished the race in 22nd, 4 laps down.
The day was not a total loss, while the finish was not ideal, Patison and team did improve their position in the championship point standings, climbing from 11th to 7th place with 8 races to go. The series’ next event will be May 30th at South Boston Speedway.
