The Discount Tire American Sprint Car Series lost over half of their season when their home track, Manzanita Speedway, was sold and shut its gates.
The ASCS cars will journey to Albuquerque, NM for their first race since Manzy closed on April 12. Actually is will be two nights of racing on the Hollywood Hills 3/8th’s mile clay oval Saturday and Sunday nights.
Fittingly the race will be the 30th annual Buddy Taylor Memorial who lived in Albuquerque until his untimely demise in a sprint car race at Manzanita September 21, 1978.
Charles Davis, Jr. leads the current ASCS points standings. Hollywood Hills has another ASCS race on their schedule but the association learned last week that the race plant will cease racing after the Saturday/Sunday races.
Windy McDonald of Phoenix, a 52 year veteran calling races, has been asked to get behind the microphone for the Taylor race.
The track opens each evening at 5:00 with competitive racing, which also features Midgets and Mini Sprints, starts at 7:00.
