
IRWINDALE, California — To celebrate the conclusion of the school year, all students and teachers will be admitted for free when attending this Saturday’s (May 30) Student / Teacher Appreciation Night at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale. The promotion applies to all students, teachers and administrative personnel who attend or work at grade, middle and high schools, colleges, trade and vocational schools. School identification is required when obtaining the ticket at the Speedway ticket office.
High school students are encouraged to wear their prom attire as a special contest will be held to crown the King and Queen of the Prom with prizes awarded to the winners.
Saturday evening’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Weekly Racing series schedule is highlighted by a 50-lap Auto Club Late Model race, 75-lap ASA Speed Truck Challenge race; 35-lap Justice Brothers Mini Stock race, 35-lap Legends Cars race and a 35-lap South West Tour Trucks race.
Auto Club Late Model division points leader Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills will be performing double-duty on Saturday in the wedding chapel and at the race track. Joanides will serve as his brother’s Best Man during a late afternoon wedding taking place in Central California. Immediately following the ceremony Joanides will fly from the site of the wedding to the Speedway via charter helicopter arriving in time to qualify and race his race car for the evening’s 50-lap feature race. Reigning division champion Tim Huddleston of Agoura Hills is in second place in the point standings trailing Joanides by 18 points but has won the last two races including last Saturday’s (May 23) contest.
The ASA Speed Truck Challenge makes its first visit of the season to the Speedway on Saturday night. After four races, Joey Licata of Lake Balboa leads the series standings with 225 points with Randel King of Riverside in second place with 214 points.
Tyler Rogers of Riverside and Daryl Scoggins of Sunland head into Saturday night’s Justice Brothers Mini Stocks action tied for the division points lead with 194 points. The finishing results of each driver are identical. Each has accumulated two wins along with a second and third place finish.
Brandon Toy’s consistency of finishing in the top five in the first four Legends car races of the season has placed the Bakersfield resident on top of the division standings with 176 points. Toy has scored one 3rd place finish, two 4th place finishes and a 5th place finish to his credit. Brent Scheidemantle of Alta Loma is in second place in the division standings with 162 points.
The South West Tour Trucks make their second appearance of the season at the Speedway. Dalton Kuhn won the first race on April 4th.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. with drivers, crews and race cars on the oval track. Late Model qualifying and the first race get under way at 7 p.m.
