The Outlaw Compacts, the Northwest’s original four-cylinder touring series, invades Ephrata Raceway Park on June 6th. For the first time in a handful of years, the Outlaws return to ERP. According to Drew Harthorn, the 2008 series champion, “we’re looking forward to returning to ERP, it’s a good little track and the Witte’s put on great show”. Local racer Scott Waulters is looking forward to racing in his back yard this weekend and will try to fend off all of the Westside cars that are showing up.
For the first time in many years, the points race is shaping up to be a knock-down, drag-out battle to the end. The top three cars are only separated by three tickers and the top five are within 27 points. Car count has flourished this year with 23 contenders showing up for the last race at South Sound Speedway. “The key to our success according to club president Chad Benjamin, is the respect our family of racers have for each other, it’s more than a racing club, we’re all friends with a common passion”.
The current top three Outlaws are led by Jim “Guido” Perry, Dale Creager and Eric Angeledes. Outlaw Compact cars represent many models including Mustang’s, Pinto’s, Scirocco's, a 240SX, and the crowd favorites of Rod Helmuth and Jim Cutrell with their Karmen Ghia and “Herbie the Love Bug”
VW Beetle. The action is guaranteed to be fast and furious with the Outlaws high-powered brand of racing invading ERP. Additional information available at www.outlawcar.com.
