NORTH HIGHLANDS, California – Rob Dixon and RTD Motorsports, Inc. announced Tuesday the signing of third-generation driver Phil Dugan for the remaining races on the 2009 NASCAR Camping World Series West schedule.
RTD Motorsports will continue its partnership and commitment to the Drive for Diversity program with the signing of the 21 year-old Dugan.
Dugan brings a strong short track resume from his home track Meridian Speedway to the touring Camping World Series.
The Boise, ID native, now living in Scottsdale, AZ, was the 2004 Meridian Speedway Late Model champion. In 2008 he placed third in that division’s points standings.
Dugan competed in three NASCAR Camping World Series West events in April for his family owned and operated Dynamic Motorsports, with a best finish of 14th at Roseville.
“I’m super excited to race for Rob and he has some very nice stuff,” Dugan said. “Even though the season is half over, I want go out and be competitive.”
Racing for a team owner instead of a family-owned team will be a new experience for Dugan.
“Just showing up at the track on Friday and going racing will be a new experience,” Dugan said.
The driver will make his first start with RTD Motorsports this Saturday night in Roseburg, OR in the “Toyota / Bi-Mart 150.” 150 laps of action will take place for the stars of the NASCAR Camping World Series around the three-eights mile Douglas County Speedway.
“It’s been an uphill battle getting this going and I honestly have to thank my friends and family for all their support,” Dugan said.
After Roseburg, Dugan will attack the road course at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma on Father’s Day weekend. Road course racing will be another new experience for the young driver.
