Stockton 99 Speedway returns to action Saturday, June 6th for 99 Night at the Speedway. Come early and bring the kids because the first 99 kids get a free ice cream. Also, hotdogs and sodas will be 99 cents all day long. On tap for the evening?s event will be the NASCAR Whelen All-American Western Late Models, Grand American Modifieds, ALSC/Street Stocks and the Bombers. There will be plenty of laps and points to go around for all to enjoy as each division runs 99 laps for Double Points.
Points Leader Vito Ranuio retains his slim margin over runner-up Justin Philpott in the Western Late Models. Last Saturday the two got together coming off turn four, spinning Ranuio and sending Philpott to the tail-end of the field. This rivalry continues to heat up as the season races into the summer months. Ranuio?s victory Saturday was his fourth on the year which leads all drivers. But the young Philpott has a very fast car, and if he can manage to stay out of trouble, we should see some exciting battles in the weeks to come. Track Records continue to fall in this division as Mike Beeler clocked in at a blistering 13.594, almost two tenths faster than Guy Guibor just one week ago.
The Grand American Modifieds return to the grid after a week off. Seventeen year old Michael Ostrowski continues to lead the way over veterans Larry Tankersley and Scott Winters. Winters was victorious last time out, and with his talent, wherever he goes, he?s the odds-on favorite to win. However, the young Ostrowski always has to be figured in on the final outcome. And, Super Star Wes Miller, whom many consider to be one of the cleanest drivers ever, can never be counted out until the checkered flag falls.
In the ALSC/Street Stock Division Jeff Ahl?s Points Lead received a giant boost Saturday as Pete Anderson Sr and Chad Holman, second and third in points, respectively, were both absent from the racing surface. In the mean time, newcomer Brock Monroe took advantage of Aaron Coonfield?s and Ahl?s mechanical misfortunes to bring home the checkers in his second start. We will not know how close the points battle actually is until all drivers involved have at least fourteen races under their belts. With nine races down we have five to go before the points shake down.
Ben Lewis and the Bomber Division are back on track after a well-deserved week off. As everyone knows, Lewis and Bombers are synonymous with each other. He has won six races in a row without much challenge until last Saturday when Russell Johnson stepped to the forefront to lead the first half of the race before being overtaken by Lewis. Hopefully, Johnson will continue to progress so we might see a rivalry building in this division as well.
