SPEEDWAY PAYS TRIBUTE TO EMERGENCY CREWS, FELLOW RACER

MERIDIAN, Idaho — Saturday will be a night of tributes at ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway with the inaugural running of the Miller Lite 100 Super Stocks race in memory of Dee Forrey on Injury Care Services Police-Fire-EMS Appreciation Night.

The Super Stocks feature will be held in memory of former Meridian Speedway Super Stocks and Limited Stocks racer Dee Forrey, who lost a two-year battle with cancer after the 2005 season.

In addition to the Super Stocks 100-lap feature, Meridian’s quarter-mile will see action with Non-wing Sprints, Legends, Bandoleros and Jr. Stingers.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for senior citizens and military personnel with IDs, $6 for children ages 7-11 and free for children 6 and younger.

Scores of free passes have been distributed to Treasure Valley emergency services workers in appreciation for the job that they do.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with qualifying at 5 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.

Forrey was first honored with a memorial race for he and Don Van Schoick in 2006. Gale Carter, Forrey’s close friend who still races Super Stocks, won that 30-lap main event.

In the Super Stocks main, Mountain Home, Idaho, driver Terry Lydell will try to maintain a slim six-point championship lead over Boise, Idaho’s Phillip Zubizareta. Carter sits third in the standings after his wild finish against Dennis Brodigan of Nampa, Idaho, in last week’s Super Stocks feature. Brodigan is fifth in the standings, one point behind Middleton, Idaho’s Rick Baldwin.

Johnny Giesler and Wyatt King, both of Meridian, Idaho, are in a tight duel for the points lead in Non-wing Sprints. Giesler holds an eight-point edge.

Salt Lake City, Utah’s Ryan Bird continues to pace the field in Legends, owning a six-point advantage over Boise’s Travis Anderson.

Meridian’s Andrew Clark holds the points lead in both the Jr. Stingers and the Bandoleros.
