BOISE, Idaho — After round one of the 2009 CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series, BodyBuilding.com Minegar Racing Team driver’s David Minegar and Craig Bell are exactly where they want to be, atop the point standings and ready for a return to familiar territory. This Saturday night the team is set for battle at the annual Pepsi “125” at Magic Valley Speedway located outside Twin Falls, Idaho.
While Dave Minegar has three wins at the 1/3-mile paved oval, Craig Bell is looking for his first series victory at the fast and tricky oval. Bell’s best finish is second twice along with 10 top five finishes since 2004. Meanwhile, Minegar has seven top five finishes at the track that he has either been hot or cold at and will be making his 50th career RMCS start Saturday night.
Minegar has 21 career Sharp Powder Coating Fast time Awards (series best) to his credit and scored three of them last season in races at Magic Valley Speedway. “We have always been fast at Magic Valley but we really have not had the luck or consistency there,” Minegar said. “It seems like the championship always comes down to how well you run at Magic Valley and we need a good run Saturday night.”
While Bell has not had the success at MVS that Minegar has seen, he has always been consistent, his ten top five finishes at Magic Valley is better than any other driver in series history. “I love racing at Magic Valley,” Bell said. “We have always been good there and I hope this weekend we will be great. It is a fun track to race and the fans are some of the best. A lot of family and friends will be there and I would really like to get the victory.”
Dave Minegar leads the point standings after one race with a 21-point margin over John Dillon. Craig Bell holds down the third position in the standings with an 8-point cushion over Jonathon Gomez. The race at Magic Valley Speedway this weekend will be the first of three series stops this season at the fan favorite facility.
