PORTLAND OREGON - The American Speed Association/Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association (ASA/NSRA) continues their 2009 championship season, the third of a ten race schedule, at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, OR with the running of the TACO BELL CASEY DIEMERT CLASSIC Saturday June 13th.
After two hard nights of racing at Meridian Speedway 2008 ASA/NSRA champion Matt Hein leads the 2009 Championship points by just two over the ASA/NSRA 2006 champion Jeff Montgomery. Douglas County Speedway is Hein’s home track and one he is extremely familiar with. Montgomery from Victoria B.C., Canada won’t see his home track until August. Montgomery has demonstrated however that he is quick at any track his team shows up to. Cory Lockwood trails the leader by just ten points in third. This is Lockwood’s second year on the ASA/NSRA tour and he may have a steep learning curve to stick with Hein and Montgomery. All the drivers will have the chance to “stretch their legs” as DCS is a larger higher banked track than Meridian.
The Douglas County Speedway is currently a three-eighths mile paved racetrack. A recently completed renovation to the Roseburg facility included expanding from a third mile and widening of the track, as well as a complete resurfacing that increased the banking in the turns from nine to 11 degrees. Douglas County Speedway gates open at 4 PM, time trials begin at 5 PM and racing starts at 6:30 PM.
ASA/NSRA is the most exciting opened wheel racing on the west coast and by far the fastest. NSRA drivers currently hold 21 all time track records at venues throughout the region. These are open wheeled, winged sprint cars running on paved ovals utilizing 700 plus horsepower methanol-burning engines running on tracks that vary in length from quarter mile to five-eights mile facilities.
