JIMMY JUSTICE WINS IMCA MODS AT SANTA MARIA

SANTA MARIA, California — Papich Construction IMCA Modifieds, NMRA TQ Midgets, MMI Factory Stocks, and Toste Grading & Paving Mini Stocks tackled the 1/3-mile oval at Santa Maria Speedway Saturday Night.

*Jimmy Justice, of Lompoc, fought off Santa Maria's Danny Lauer and Bakersfield's Bryan Clark for victory in the 30-lap IMCA Modified feature event. Santa Maria drivers Ian Hunter and Doug Thornton placed fourth and fifth. Lauer captured an 8-lap heat race and the "Last Man Standing" trophy dash. The other two heat races were won by Clark and Josh Vogt of Santa Maria.

*Richard Ortega, Jr., of Camarillo, won his second straight 25-lap NMRA TQ Midget main event, but not without drama. Coming out of turn four on the final lap, Ortega broke a half-shaft, bounced off the wall at the starter's stand and ended up against the wall in turn one. Chuck West, of Clovis, was second, followed by Moorpark's West Evans, Camarillo's Bruce Hiroshima, and Sunland's Kenny Wiley. Eight-lap heat race wins went to Ortega and West.

*Gary Rayburn, Jr., of Grover Beach, was the class of the Factory Stock field capturing both an 8-lap heat race and the 20-lap main event. Rayburn led Mike Leland, of Atascadero, to the checkers, followed by Theo Van De Sande of Carpinteria. Kevin Linson, of Arroyo Grande, and Tim Bennett, of Santa Maria, filled out the top-five. Other heat race winners were Leland and point leader Dale Sylvester of Arroyo Grande.

*Tom Grzincic, of Atascadero, continued his winning ways in the Mini Stocks, taking the "Last Man Standing" trophy dash, an 8-lap heat race, and the 20-lap feature, his fourth of the season. Grzincic was followed home by Nipomo's Jeremy Heroux and Santa Maria's Rob Gilbertson. Fourth and fifth were Kurt Larsen, of Nipomo, and Pat Fausel of Santa Maria. Heroux and Gilbertson won the other heats.

*Next Saturday night West Coast Shootout Late Models, MMI Factory Stocks, and Toste Grading & Paving Mini Stocks will take to the track.
