ANTELOPE, California — Paulie Harraka, driver of the No. 12 NAPA AutoCare/Adaptive One Brakes/Copart Toyota Camry for Bill McAnally Racing, raced in his first road course event for BMR in the NASCAR Camping World Series West. He qualified the No. 12 in tenth and finished in 14th.
During the first caution at lap 14, crew chief Duane Knorr made the call for Harraka to come down pit lane for Sunoco fuel. The other leaders made their fuel stop while under green beginning at lap 19. The team noticed that Harraka was being scored off the track in 26th place. A few laps later, he was recorded in 38th. Knorr contacted the officials and it was determined that the transponder had fallen off the No. 12 NAPA AutoCare Toyota and Harraka came in under the next caution to have a new one put on the car. (NASCAR later recovered the transponder on the track.) Harraka was running in fourth and then by lap 38, had moved into third. While passing road course ace Boris Said for second contact by the fourth place car sent Harraka into a spin. He recovered quickly with no caution coming out. He was now in tenth. At lap 59, Harraka got caught up in a wreck giving him a 14th place finish.
The nineteen-year old rising sophomore at Duke University and rookie of the year contender is currently seventh in the chase for the championship and only 18 points out of the top-five. In seven starts this season, he has three top-five finishes and four top-tens.
