Miinch Motorsports pilot Taylor Miinch scored the double victory this past weekend at the second round of the Championship Karting International (CKI) event at the New Jersey Motorsports Park. Located in Millville, New Jersey, Miinch descended on the facility with the goal of victory in mind and managed to sweep the top spot in the junior classes.
After taking the pole position in the IAME Junior class, Miinch never dropped out of the top three as his P1 powered Top Kart was on a roll. With first, second and third place results through the heat races, Miinch managed to claim the all important pole position for Sunday morning’s prefinal.
After pacing the field in morning warm-up, it was down to business for the California resident as he took the lead at the drop of the green flag. Looking to stay out front, Miinch drove some of the fastest race laps of the weekend to open a gap on the rest of his fellow competitors. Consistently pulling away through out the ten lap race, Miinch took the checkers and would start the main event from the inside front row.
“My kart was on rails and the motor ran really well,” explained Miinch after the prefinal. “I think we have something for them this weekend. At this track, a fourteen lap race is a long time so kart setup will have to be good.”
Miinch followed in the footsteps of his prefinal domination as he led wire to wire in the main event to take his first CKI win. Pulling a gap early, Miinch drove a smart race and made safe, clean passes when challenged but drove a conservative race ensuring his equipment would make it to the end.
After win number one on the weekend, Miinch would look to do the double in the KF3 class. Switching to an Ocala Gran Prix prepared Vortex motor, Miinch scored his best qualifying result in the KF class to date.
Looking to maintain or move forward in the heat races, Miinch did just that as he claimed a heat race win and two second place results. Running against some of the top junior competitors in the country, Miinch was able to prove that he is one of the best up and coming drivers.
Wanting to try and repeat the success of his IAME Junior performance, Miinch started with a second place result in the prefinal setting him up for an outside front row starting spot in the main event.
When the green flag flew for the start of the final, Miinch and one fellow competitor avoided the opening lap carnage and began to pull a gap on the field. Running nose to tail and passing almost once a lap, the duo would fight for the lead throughout the fourteen lap final. Though Miinch led less laps than his competitor, he led the most important one as he crossed the finish line first to claim his second win of the weekend.
