Coming off a successful 08 season, having won third in overall points and Rookie of the Year, being able to run only a limited number of races in this season’s Camping World West Series hasn’t been easy for Jeff Barkshire and team. “To sit out the races, confident we could be contending for wins, is really difficult,” Jeff said. “Due to limited funding, we chose to run only the races we felt would be the most beneficial, Phoenix on April 16th being the first.” But luck was not on their side. Due to right front tire failures during each of the two practice sessions, the second resulting in a totaled car, they didn’t even get to start the race. “That was a killer,” Jeff said, “So disappointing. The hardest part was knowing we would’ve been a contender; the car was really fast. With the few laps we were able to complete, we ran third fast of the thirty five car field.”
"...we’re back in the game. Really looking forward to racing in Irwindale on the 4th of July."— Jeff Barkshire
Further disappointment came as their next scheduled race, Iowa on May 17th, had to be cancelled due to a combination of inadequate funding and severely damaged equipment.
“But we’re back in the game,” Jeff said, “Really looking forward to racing in Irwindale on the 4th of July.” Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the team, the 46 Dodge is race ready again. Also making Irwindale possible is the financial support of their sponsor, Centennial Batteries, who is headquartered in southern California with stores covering the west coast. “It’s gonna feel great to be back on the track,” Jeff said, “And our hopes are high for a win in Irwindale.”
