PERRIS, California — 12 Year Old Andrew Murray, took the Exclusive Energy / Napa Auto Parts car from starting next to last to victory lane on the July 4th at the USAC race held at Perris Auto Speedway. In front of a packed house Murray picked off one car at a time, patiently waiting for each opportunity. With two to go, he grabbed the lead and checked away from the field, winning by over a second.
After the race, Murray was quick to point out - "the car had very little side bite, stopping me from being able to flat foot the whole race track".
The race was interrupted by 4 cautions, which played into Murray's favor, by bunching up the field to enable him to stay close to the leaders for that final run to victory.
This is Murray's first year in USAC racing, having stepped out of a successful 2008 year in karting. Murray,a Southern California resident, is currently second in the points race for the Junior Ford Focus USAC series , and this win closed the gap to enable him to be in striking distance for a championship run.
