KIDS GET IN FREE, DEBUT OF LANGERS JUICE S2 SERIES, SUPER LATE MODEL TWINS AND TRAIN RACE HIGHLIGHT SATURDAY’S FAMILY NIGHT AT TOYOTA SPEEDWAY AT

IRWINDALE, California — Seven NASCAR Whelen All-American races highlight this Saturday’s (July 11) Family Night at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale. Youngsters 15 years of age and under will be admitted for free and students 16-18 will be admitted for $7.50.

The evening’s schedule is highlighted by the season debut of the Langers Juice S2 series, the return of the ACDelco Super Late Model series after a three week hiatus, Vista Paint Super Stocks, Legends Cars and Jan’s Towing Bandoleros division action along with an always entertaining Train race.

Saturday’s Langers Juice S2 race is the first of seven races scheduled for the 2009 season. The series will feature a turn-key spec economy stock car with a fully-fabricated chassis built by Race Car Factory of Irwindale, Calif. and High Point Racing of Agoura Hills, Calif. The car includes a spec plastic body featuring a NASCAR Sprint Cup style rear wing from Five Star Racecar Bodies of Twin Lakes, Wis. and a Chevy 350hp sealed crate engine power plant. The complete turn-key cost of the car is estimated at $25,000 and will serve as a stepping stone for those competitors graduating from the Legends Cars or other similar divisions and is also expected to attract sportsman drivers who are looking to compete in an affordable and competitive racing series.

Reigning champion Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills leads the ACDelco Super Late Model division standings with 544 points which includes a four-race win streak along with eight wins in 11 races. Joanides swept the last twin bill on June 20 before the schedule break. In both races, Joanides had to hold off repeated challenges by Rip Michels of San Fernando. In the first race Joanides edged Michels at the finish line by 0.197 of a second while in the second race the margin of victory was 0.211 of a second. Michels is in second place in the standings with 480 points.

After the first five races of the Vista Paint Super Stocks season, Larry Cerquettini of Redlands has a perfect record with victories in each race with the most recent win on June 13. Cerquettini leads the division standings with 250 points followed by Ken Brown of Cherry Valley with 224 points including five top-five finishes on the season.

Ryan Reed’s consistency of finishing in the top five in six of the first eight races of the season including a runner-up finish in the last race on June 27 has allowed him to take over first place in the division standings from fellow Bakersfield resident Brandon Toy. Reed has an eight point lead over Toy who has also had a consistent run with a victory and five other top five finishes in eight races this season. In the meantime, 16 year old Donny St. Ours of Upland has been on a hot streak winning three races in his last three starts including the last race on the 27th. St. Ours won the race in impressive fashion by taking over the lead from Reed on the final lap of the race making a spectacular inside move in turn four and edging Reed at the finish line by 0.132 of a second.

Rookie Ryan Cansdale of Beach leads the Jan’s Towing Bandoleros division standings with 382 points including five wins on the season. The Bandoleros will race in a Friday / Saturday night twin bill

The first of three scheduled Train races of the season will close out the evening’s activities. The competition features teams of three cars connected together competing on the Speedway’s figure 8 course. The front car includes the driver responsible for steering and controlling the throttle, the middle car is unoccupied while the driver in the rear car controls the brakes.

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. with drivers, crews and race cars on the oval track. The first race begins at 7 p.m.
