A near capacity crowd enjoyed on track fireworks followed by a huge fireworks extravaganza that lit up the night sky at Mid Season Championship Night presented by Les Schwab at Skagit Speedway. In the Associated Asphalt 410 division, Colton Heath was a bottle rocket all night, taking the lead from Jesse Whitney on lap 2 and rocketing out to a the win in the Leo Voight owned Sanford Tire #5 XXX. After winning the scramble, Heath powered his way around the top side to a winning margin of almost a half track, crossing the line five seconds before second place Jesse Whitney in his Precise Machining #88 Eagle. Third was Jason Solwold in the Cavalli Construction #73 Maxim. With the top eight cars in owner's points locked into the scramble, the remainder of the field qualified for their starting position. Chris Schmelzle was the fastest 410 qualifier at 11.727 in the Talcore Walls & Ceilings #57c Lejuene.
The finish of the night was in the Budweiser 360 Sprints, where Jason Solwold caught race leader Brock Lemley in turn for coming to the checkered flag and passed him in heavy traffic to score his fourth win of 2009, his third at Skagit Speedway, and second overall in the C&S Construction #51 owned by Jon Farrell. Lemley led up until lap 24 7/8 but still grabbed a solid second on his birthday weekend, driving the Kentch Bros., Haling Seafood sponsored #40 XXX. Third went to Mike Harris in the Shark Racing Engines #44 XXX. Lemley won the scramble. Jared Peterson was quick time in his Frontier Chevrolet #9 Rocket.
In the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprints, Kelsey Carpenter scored his sixth main event win of the year on Mid Season Championship night, passing race leader Bill Rude in lapped traffic on lap 14 on the way to victory lane. The win strengthened Carpenter's chances at repeating as division champion in his Dri-Eaz sponsored #27c XXX. Rude finished second in the North Cascade Ford #33 Eagle. Marc Schutte was third in the Rudy Blumenhagen owned #72 XXX. Carpenter won the scramble.
Right front tires were the story of night in the Outlaw Hornet division, where no less than three tires literally came off their cars, causing multiple yellow flags and shortening the feature to 11 laps. At the end of the feature, it was Cory Swatzina standing victorious, garnering his fourth win of the year and strengthening his points lead. His brother Wade finished second, with Tyler Ketchum finishing third. Swatzina also won the scramble.
