When 14 year old Super Clean Lucas Oil Modified Series driver 51a Austin Barnes arrived for the first time at the Orange Show Speedway he was ready to race and qualified fourth, only .05 off the pole in a very tight qualifying session with the top qualifier setting a new track record. When the top six lined up for the trophy dash he took the lead and never looked back winning his first trophy dash of the season.

In the main event Austin was able to mix it up with the top drivers in the western region and after 75 laps finish fourth and continue to move up in the points standing for the year end championship. The young driver is gaining the respect of the other drivers and becoming a fan favorite especially among the younger fans. He has been choosen as one to watch by the press covering the Super Clean Lucas Oil Modified Series.

Austin would like to thank his fellow drivers and mentors teammate Jimmy Dickerson last years Lucas OIl Modified Series champion and Andrew Phipps Irwindale Speedway multitime champion. He would also like to thank his car builder and crew chief Steve Teets of Short Track Racecars and his dad lead technician Tedd Barnes. Thank you also to his sponsors SanDiego.com, About Service Automotive Repair, STR Racecars, Print World, Rusty's Cafe, Electrotech Powder Coating, Visions Design, and the Automobile Club or Southern California.
