LOPEZ SETS FAST TIME IN THE LANGERS S2 SERIES

18-year old Kendell Lopez out of Independence, Missouri set the pace this past weekend in the High Point Racing Rent Your Ride #59 by setting the fastest time of 20.513 in the Langer S2 Sportsman’s since their debut on the fourth of July. Kendell had the fastest qualifying efforts of 20.551 earlier in the day that put her on the top of the charts for the start of the Main Event, but a dice roll and invert cost her pole starting position and she had to start at the tail of the field.

The event was originally scheduled to be a forty-lap contest with the six Langers S2 cars, but a late decision by the officials shortened the event by 20 laps. Kendell got a rocking start to the 20 lap Main Event, and as she was charging to the front of the field, a mishap occurred between the #59 of Lopez and fellow competitor Kyle Longmore that caused Lopez to spin into the grass. There was only 7 laps to go until the checkered flag dropped, but she restarted and came back up to fifth to cap off the day.

“I was very disappointed when Kyle (Longmore) and I got together,” explains Kendell, “We had a really good run to the front. But, I kept the car out of the wall and was able to get back on the track to finish with another top five! My goal is to run hard for the championship and consistent runs like these are what we need.”

Expectations of the young inexperienced Kendell were not all that high going into the 2009 season with the Langers S2 Sportmans, but she has certainly proved the differ as she has made top five finishes in the two races she’s been in thus far. With consistency like that, one is to assume that a 1st place finish is just around the corner.

“Today was so much fun, ”says Kendell,“ We were racing 3-wide for some of the laps, and that makes me feel really good to know the other drivers respect me as a racer and are willing to race side by side like that. It’s going to be a very long three weeks until our next race here at Toyota Speedway, but when it comes I hope to be standing in victory lane at the end of the day!”

You have to be very impressed by the determination of the 18-year old Kendell, as she might not have a lot of experience behind the wheel of a racecar she certainly does not let you see that on the track. She’s a contender week in and week out and with her consistent finishes; she also has a good shot at the championship!
