ELMA, Washington — There have been four main events in the Fred Brownfield Memorial, Shane Stewart of Bixby, OK. Won both nights in 2007 and 2008, Saturday was the fourth race of five races in six nights of the American Sprint Car Series Northwest Region Speedweek series. Jesse Hockett of Warsaw, Mo, won the first three races in Oregon, Monday in Medford, Tuesday in Cottage Grove and Wednesday in Lebanon. Roger Crockett of Medford, OR. Put an end to both streaks when he went wire to wire in the 30-lap feature event Friday night.
Allison Journey of Springfield picked up her second Triple X Racing Co. “Ford Focus Midgets” feature win of her young career and her first at Grays Harbor Raceway when she parlayed her pole position to a green flag to checkered flag victory in 20-lap main event.
Sprints
Crockett had the pole position by virtue of the pill draw earlier in the evening. In ASCS races, the top eight drivers after the heat races come out in front of the grandstands and eight young fans, usually under the age of 10 are brought down on the track and matched up with the eight drivers and get to draw pill for the drivers starting positions in the main event.
Outside of Crockett on the front row was Seth Bergman of Snohomish who now drives in the ASCS national circuit, with some heavy hitters right behind them, Travis Rilat of Forney, TX. Steve Tiner, Vasalia, CA. Tim Crawley, Benton, AR. And Jason Johnson, Eunice, LA. Along with a host of others.
Crockett jumped right out in front at the start, followed by Bergman, Rilat, Crawley and Tiner.
The race was stopped on lap-14 when Darren Long, Elida, Oh. Took as violent flip on the back stretch. Long was checked out by track medical staff but was OK except for hurt feelings.
Bergman dropped out of the race on the next lap when his car developed mechanical problems.
Crockett had the lead on the restart, followed by Rilat, Crawley, Tiner, and Johnson.
Crockett survived one more caution flag restart on lap-25 and went on to take the checkered flag, followed by Rilat, Crawley, Johnson and Stewart.
Sean McClelland, Tulsa, Ok. got by Steve Vague, Kirkland on lap-10 of B-Main 1, and Jay Cole passed Vague on the last lap of the 12-lap race to qualify for the feature.
Long chased Glenn Borden Jr. Raymond for eleven lap before getting by for the win in B Main 2, while Jack Dover, Springfield, NE. edged out Borden to Qualify for the feature race.
Ken Walker, Spaula, OK led from start to finish in B Main 3 and Henry VanDam, Enumclaw, WA. edged out Jared Peterson, Stanwood, WA for the final transfer spots to the feature.
Midgets
Journey had the pole position with point’s leader Jonathan Jorgenson, Auburn on the outside of the front row.
Journey took the green flag, followed by Jorgenson, Seth Hespe, Snohomish, Jeremy Miller, Montesano and Aerial Biggs, Hoquiam.
Nearly half of the starting field was out of the race when Jorgenson flipped his car in turn-4 and Brandon Daniel, McCleary layed his over on its side on lap-5.
Hespe challenged Journey a couple of times before the finish but couldn’t get by her.
Hespe finished second, Miller third, Todd Hartman fourth and Biggs fifth.
