VENTURA, California — Oak Park’s Rob Kershaw keeps trying to shove himself into the race for the Ventura Raceway Senior Sprint Car championship but his closest pursuers won’t give him any breathing room.

Kershaw won the main event Saturday at Ventura but points leader Bruce Douglas finished second and Willey Miller, who is second in the standings, was third in the race.

That kind of competition makes it tough to make up ground but it is also a hallmark of the racing at Ventura. Douglas, Miller and Kershaw are separated by a total of 25 points.

The other winners at Ventura included Kevin Kierce (of Reseda) in Sprint Cars, Austin Rodarte (Ventura) in the IMCA Modifieds, Ray Estrada (Yucaipa) in the Pro Dwarf Cars, George Calvo (Aqua Dulce) in the Senior Dwarf Cars, Brennan Rogers (Camarillo) in the Junior Midgets, Zachery Gilmore (Woodland Hills) in the Mini Dwarf-Pistons and Tommy Velasquez III (Camarillo) in the Mini Dwarf-Superchargers.
