MANTECA, California — In his first year driving a Late Model in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, sixteen year-old Jacob Gomes of Manteca, CA has moved up to the top rookie position in points nationwide.
He has had two wins, fourteen top-5, and seventeen top-10 finishes. Currently he is fourth overall in state points.
Racing since the age of eight, Jacob has made his mark in every series and division he has participated in. It looks like he intends to do the same in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Models.
He got his start in a Box Stock at Delta Speedway in Stockton, California where he quickly excelled. The next step was a Minicup, a half-scale replica of a NASCAR Nextel Cup race car, where he earned Rookie of the Year, three division championships and a National Championship.
The team, consisting of his Dad, little brother (also a racer), with wonderfully supportive family and sponsors, moved up to a Baby Grand (2/3 scale), where Jacob again proved he has what it takes by bringing home Rookie of the Year (2007), and series Championship awards.
"I have to thank my family and Dell'Osso Family Farms for all their support over the years", said Jake. "Without them, I could not have gotten this far in racing."
Jake plans on a strong finish in the Whelen All-American Series this year and has hopes of moving up to the Camping World Series West.
"My goal is to stay on top of the national rookie of the year points and earn that award this year," he remarked.
"I hope to be driving a Camping World Series car next year and a national title will definitely help there."
