WINDY MCDONALD ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT PLANS

The closing of Manzanita Speedway has given me time to reflect on my future and I have decided that 52 years behind a microphone is enough. I will be retiring after a couple of races later in the year. USA Speedway has asked me to announce the Hall of Fame Classic on October 10 and Canyon Raceway wants me for the November 7 events.

If a track opens in the Phoenix area I would like to announce their opener and the same it true if Casa Grande opens. I look forward to seeing many of the friends I have made through the years and have a chance to officially say farewell.

While I am not still at the top of my game I feel that I am still fairly good but I do not want to overstay my welcome. At my age I am aware that, although I am healthy now, things can change in a hurry. I remember the final years that two of the greatest drivers ever, A.J. Foyt and Richard Petty, stayed around too long and were not threats to win. I prefer to quit while I am ahead.

I will continue to head up the Arizona Motorsports Hall of Fame but that too will have someone else at the helm in a few years.

I want to thank those who have purchased my books and for those who have yet to get them ordering information is at windymcdonald.com. However the supply is limited. As I promised I bought 100 copies of the final program for Manzanita Speedway and I still have some of those available.

Thanks to all of you--fans, owners, drivers, pit crew members and the officials who have been at the various tracks where I announced.

I will have an empty spot in my heart (it will team up with the empty spot in my head) but I know that my decision is the right one.

Farewell my friends,

Windy McDonald
