
IRWINDALE, California — Seven races and the STOCK Building Supply Home Improvement Show highlight this Saturday’s (August 1) activities at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale. Youngsters 12 years of age and under will be admitted for free and students 13-18 get in for $7.50.
STOCK Building Supply, a leading supplier of building materials to professionals and consumers is hosting the Home Improvement Show, free to all event attendees. Spectators attending the show will be able to preview the latest in home improvement materials and receive remodeling advice from professionals representing key vendors exhibiting at the show. Several power tool manufacturers will also have displays with product demonstrations and tools available for purchase.
The racing action is headlined by the NASCAR ACDelco Super Late Model twin races, Vista Paint Super Stocks, Justice Brothers Mini Stocks, Langers Juice S2, INEX Legends Cars qualifying race and INEX Championship Jan’s Towing Bandoleros race.
Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills leads the NASCAR Whelen All-American California State Championship standings and ranks 15th in the national championship standings. Entering Saturday’s twin race action, the reigning division champion leads the ACDelco Super Late Model division standings with 640 points including a 62 point lead over former champion Rip Michels (578 points) of San Fernando. So far this season Joanides has won nine races including five in his last six outings. Joanides and Michels each notched wins in the last Super Late Model twin bill on July 11.
Larry Cerquettini Redlands has been unstoppable in Vista Paint Super Stocks racing action this year winning the first seven races of the season. He will attempt to set a track record on Saturday night with the most consecutive wins in Super Stock competition. Cerquettini leads the division championship standings with 350 points while Ken Brown of Cherry Valley is in second place with 314 points.
Brandon Toy leads the Legends Cars championship standings with 412 points. Toy was able to regain the points lead from fellow Bakersfield resident Ryan Reed (410 points) by winning the last race on July 25 when he took the lead from Reed on the last lap of the race. Reigning division champion Tom Landreth of Alta Loma had his best race of the season with a second place finish.
Despite having his four-race consecutive win streak snapped in the last race on July 18, Daryl Scoggins of Sunland leads the Justice Brothers Mini Stock championship standings with 340 points. Tyler Rogers of Riverside who is in second place in the standings with 314 points was the driver who snapped Scoggins win streak, scoring his third win of the season.
The new Langers Juice S2 division returns to action on Saturday for its second race of a seven race schedule. Randel King of Riverside won the inaugural race on July 11. The series features a turn-key spec economy stock car with a fully-fabricated chassis. The car includes a spec plastic body featuring a NASCAR Sprint Cup style rear wing and a Chevy 350hp sealed crate engine power plant. The complete turn-key cost of the car is estimated at $25,000.
Rookie Ryan Cansdale of Laguna Beach leads the Jan’s Towing Bandoleros division standings with 478 points including five wins on the season. The Bandoleros will race in a Friday / Saturday night twin bill.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. with drivers, crews and race cars on the oval track. The first race begins at 7 p.m.
