VENTURA, California — It’s a tradition, a one-race season. The race every Ventura Raceway regular wants to win because bragging rights come with it.
Bragging rights are everything to a racecar driver and they are on the line at the Raceway Wednesday, Aug. 5, and Thursday, Aug. 6, the opening nights of the Ventura County Fair.
Raceway drivers frequently plan their entire season around preparing to win a Fair race in their class. All drivers must be registered with Ventura Racing Association, except IMCA Modified drivers, who must be registered with the IMCA. All cars must have VRA registration.
Both nights of racing will include a Fair favorite, the demolition derby, after the oval racing is concluded. Spectator gates at the track are slated to open at 4 p.m. There is a $5 charge for General Admission tickets to the racetrack. Kids aged 12 and under get in to see the races free.
Opening Night at the Fair, Wednesday, includes racing by VRA Dwarf Cars, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, USAC Jr. Focus Midgets, the VRA youth classes and the demolition derby.
The racing on Thursday includes IMCA Modifieds, both the Front and Rear Wheel Drive cars in the Sport Compact class, NMRA TQ Midgets and the derby.
The Fair races are part of the regular season at Ventura and championship points are awarded. But winning at the Fair means more to the drivers than just points. Who will win and spend a year bragging about it?
We’ll find out this week.
