LEXINGTON, Ohio — Next up for Johnny Mowlem and his Corsa Motorsports teammates is the Aug. 8 Acura Sports Car Challenge American Le Mans Series race at the classic American race track, the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.
Mowlem and co-driver Stefan Johansson will pilot Corsa’s revolutionary hybrid-powered Ginetta-Zytek 09HSZ around Mid Ohio’s challenging layout, looking for a second consecutive podium finish.
“Revolutionary as it is to challenge the best teams in the world with an internal combustion engine/electric motor hybrid combination, we can’t just think of it that way,” Mowlem said recently. “We have to develop this car and power package just as we have all developed some new concept at different stages of our careers. It has required a great deal of teamwork and effort from the Corsa motorsport team and as much support from all our other partners as possible.”
The Corsa effort has factory support from Zytek. Mowlem and Johansson finished third overall at the most recent ALMS race at Lime Rock Park, a tremendous achievement because it became the first time ever a hybrid configuration reached the podium.
“Obviously the podium finish was very satisfying,” Mowlem said. “Still, we have a lot of development work to do yet and third place, although great, certainly still leaves us with more steps to take.”
Johnny Mowlem is a winner in both the 24 hours at Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring, and also a podium finisher at Le Mans. He is popular with fans around the world and is a familiar presence to racing viewers on British television.
The Mid Ohio race will air on the American television cable network SPEED. The race is scheduled to start at 3 p.m., Eastern Time in the United States.
