SASKATOON, Sask — Nothing teaches the value of patience like racing on a short track.

Scott Steckly started 18th and did not take the lead until the 128th lap but he won the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Velocity Prairie Thunder at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. The race around the 1/3-mile oval was a 250-lapper.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Canadian Tire Series. The Series is supplied with the same line of Goodyear Racing Eagle bias-ply tires that are used by the NASCAR Camping World East and West series. Each of the three series compete on short and intermediate sized ovals as well as on road courses.

The race saw a dozen lead changes but, in the end, Steckly’s margin of victory was very large for a Canadian Tire series race, 3.311 seconds. The winner averaged 63.108 mph for the race distance.

Don Thomson Jr. finished second, followed by D.J. Kennington, Jason Hathaway and Anthony Simone. Thomson won the pole with a lap averaging 80.193 mph.

Andrew Ranger, who finished eighth at Saskatoon, leads the race for the championship with 1,179 points. Steckly is second with 1,148.
