ANTELOPE, Ca — The No. 20 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota Camry piloted by the 2008 NASCAR Camping Worlds Series West champion, Eric Holmes finished in eighth at Miller Motorsports Park. Holmes is currently second in this year’s chase for the series championship with three races left in the season.
"We know we have our work cut out for us but this NAPA team will never give up our goal of winning back-to-back championships."— Eric holmes
The team battle with a tight condition on the NAPA Toyota during both practice sessions. An improved handling race car enabled Holmes to qualify in third of the 26 car field.
At lap 17, Holmes radioed in to his crew chief, Ty Joiner, that the car was back to experiencing a tight condition. Holmes was still running in third when a second caution came out. Joiner called Holmes to pit road at lap 19 after Holmes collected five bonus points for leading a lap as the lead cars began to filter in for pit stops. Holmes took on four fresh tires and then returned a lap later to take on fuel. He reentered the race in 14th and within one lap, had moved into the top ten. Holmes continued to battle with a tight condition to bring home the No. 20 NAPA Toyota in eighth.
“It was really frustrating,” said Holmes. “We’re heading to some tracks that we typically do well at. We have a winning record at both Colorado National and at All American Speedway. We know we have our work cut out for us but this NAPA team will never give up our goal of winning back-to-back championships.”
The No. 20 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota team would like to thank their race partner, NAPA AUTO PARTS for their continued support. The next race for the series will be the Toyota/NAPA 150 at Colorado National Raceway on August 15th. The race at CNS can be seen on August 20th on SPEED TV at noon pacific time.
