Salt Lake City, Utah -- 10,000 pounds of fury hurtled through the air at Rocky Mountain Raceways Maverik Clash of the Titans XIII Monster Truck Competition.
Twelve of the nation’s greatest monster trucks stormed into Salt Lake to compete in this one of a kind event. Rocky Mountain Raceways is one of the only oval tracks to host a figure-eight monster truck competition.
The Summit Big Foot got the fans excited during qualifying laps when it took a hard left during the final turn and ended up on its side. Luckily, the Summit Big Foot was able to continue competing.
Several trucks were unable to complete the race due to mechanical difficulties.
“The fans love seeing these monster trucks hurtle over the jumps but on the outdoor oval track these monster trucks can take quite a pounding,” said Doug Binstock General Manager of Rocky Mountain Raceways.
In the final battle King Krunch and the Iron Outlaw pushed each other to the limits. King Krunch redlined at the straight-aways and took home a victory.
In addition to the monster truck competition fans were amazed to see these monster trucks compete in a thirty second wheelie competition and freestyle frenzy.
“The freestyle competition is my favorite. I think this is great for Rocky Mountain Raceways to host this unique event. It’s something different and it really breaks up the usual oval track experience,” said Cameron Hone of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Maverik Modifieds also put on an exciting show for spectators. Johnny Luttmer dominated the first half of the race. Luttmer and Michael Haddenham had a side-by-side battle for the lead.
During the last laps of the race Luttmer and Haddenham were involved in a crash betweem turns 1 & 2 and Lynn Hardy went on to take the lead and the victory.
“This is not the way I wanted to win the race but it’s always great to win on our sponsors’ night,” said Hardy whose car is sponsored by Maverik.
Oval classes that ran in the Maverik Clash of the Titans Monster Truck Competition included Maverik Modifieds and Legends.
The nights’ winners included Lynn Hardy (Maverik Modifieds) and Brandon Snow (Legends).
Maverik Clash of the Titans XII Monster Truck Competition will continue Sunday, August 9. Gates open at 4p. Adult admission is $20 and youth admission (5-12) is $10.
In addition to monster trucks, Rocky Mountain Raceways hosts oval, drag, motocross, and drifting.
