BOWLES SET TO EXTEND NASCAR CAMPING WORLD WEST SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD IN COLORADO

DACONO, Colorado — Jason Bowles returns to short-track oval racing on Saturday (August 15), with Round 11 of the NASCAR Camping World West Series taking place at the Colorado National Speedway. The talented American race pilot enters the one-day event as the championship leader and a three-time race winner in 2009.

After a pair of road course races in Utah and Oregon, Bowles and the rest of the NASCAR Camping World West Series field return to oval racing for the remainder of the 2009 season, with a visit to the 0.375-mile Colorado National Speedway. While the former junior formula car and karting standout enjoyed the recent run of turning both left and right, finishing fifth at Portland International Raceway and third at Miller Motorsports Park to build his championship lead, he is ready to continue his pursuit of a series title on a short track oval. The No. 6 Sunrise Ford/Oakley/Joe Gibbs Racing Oil/GS 610/RPM 12/Justice Brothers/Bell/Ford driver has started from the pole position in two of the three previous short oval races, and has yet to finish outside of the top-10 in those races, finishing second in Round Two at All-American Speedway. Given these results and the fact he finished third in the 2008 edition of the race in Colorado, it would not be a surprise to see the Sunrise Ford driver challenging for the win and extending his championship lead on Saturday night.

“I’m really looking forward to the race in Colorado this weekend,” stated Bowles. “The track puts on a great event and brings out some great fans. We have ran good here the past two years and I think we will be good this year as well. The track is a lot of fun to race, and I think you will see a good run from the Sunrise Ford Fusion.”

Bowles, who currently leads the championship standings by 56 points (1694-1638), will conduct two 45-minute practice sessions on Saturday afternoon (August 15), prior to single-car qualifying taking place 5:15 p.m. local time. The green flag for the Toyota/Napa 150 at the Colorado National Speedway is scheduled to way at 8:30 p.m. local time.

About Jason Bowles:

A native of Ontario, Calif., Bowles began his motorsports career behind the wheel of a kart at the age of 11. Immediately showing talent, he promptly won several junior class races and championships, before moving up to the senior classes. Retaining his winning ways, the talented young race pilot became one of the drivers to beat in shifter kart competition. Following in the footsteps of established racing stars, Bowles began racing cars in 2004. Competing in the highly competitive Cooper Tires F2000 Championship he promptly won Rookie of the Year honors. While the Californian found continued success in the pro F2000 ranks and subsequently got the chance to test an Atlantic Championship car, funding prevented him from advancing up the open-wheel motorsports ladder. Thanks to some established relationships within motorsports his career aspirations were soon revived in the stock ranks. While Bowles was initially viewed as a road course specialist, he has since established himself as complete driver, winning on variety of courses. In 2009, Bowles will contest the entire 13-race NASCAR Camping World West Series schedule behind the wheel of a Sunrise Ford/Oakley/Joe Gibbs Racing Oil/GS 610/RPM 12/Justice Brothers Ford entry.
