SONOMA, California — Sausalito native JR Hildebrand continued his season-long success on Saturday, capturing the pole for the Carneros 100 Firestone Indy Lights Series main event.
Hildebrand, who graduated from the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School at Infineon Raceway, posted his sixth pole of the season, turning the 12-turn, 2.303-mile circuit at one minute, 23.0361 seconds. Hildebrand (AFS/Andretti Green Racing) was followed by teammate Sebastian Saavedra (1:23.4642) and Ana Beatriz (1:23:4824).
The Carneros 100 will take the green flag on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. Hildebrand, who leads the Indy Lights standings, is seeking his fourth win of the year.
“It feels great to be on the pole on my home track,” Hildebrand said. “We’ve really been able to capitalize when things are going well; the consistency factor has been great for us all year.”
Hildebrand holds a 63-point lead over Saavedra (420-357) and has to average a third-place finish or better in the remaining three races to clinch his first-ever Indy Lights championship.”
In addition to Firestone Indy Lights, the race weekend in Sonoma features the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, Historic Grand Prix and Formula DRIFT.
