Salt Lake City, Utah-August 22, 2009. Racing fans enjoyed a hot night of racing at Rocky Mountain Raceways NAPA 125.
During the Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Late Models main event John Dillon of Eagle, Idaho kept a strong lead. Several crashes resulted from heated neck-and-neck battles.
“I was better under the green. This is a better long term car,” said Dillon.
At the final restart the race was ended under the caution flag at lap 124 and Dillon took the win.
“We have won here before but it still feels great. The competition has become a lot stiffer,” said Dillon.
Kristin Bumbera experienced Rocky Mountain Raceways’ oval track for the first time. The Houston native has been racing since she was 7. Bumbera started with Go Carts and moved onto the Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Late Models.
“This is an awesome track. It’s always tough when you go out on a new track. You have to find good lines,” said Bumbera.
The Pro Race Trucks had fans on the edge of their seats at the NAPA 125. Zan Sharp in the #84 crashed in lap 17, sliding down the front straight-away and finally hitting the wall. Sharp was ok and was able to race in his second class, the Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Late Models.
Tammy Fenton of Hooper, Utah also went home a winner tonight. This lucky fan won an all expense paid trip to the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Pep Boys Auto 500, courtesy of Rocky Mountain Raceways and Coca-Cola.
The night’s winners included John Dillon (Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Late Models), Zac Atkinson (Mini Cups), Brandon Snow (Legends), Tracy Eaton (Western States Equipment Figure 8 Cars), Alan Larson (Pro Race Trucks).
In addition to oval racing, Rocky Mountain Raceways hosts drag racing, motocross racing, monster trucks and drifting.
Rocky Mountain Raceways next events include the Summit Super Series (August 28) and Rocky Mountain Raceways Super Oval-ASA Weekly Racing Series (August 29).
